Why Intellum E-commerce?

Intellum E-commerce is a powerful platform to monetize learning content. It provides a seamless workflow for handling transactions within Intellum. We wanted a flexible approach to E-commerce, where you control your products, taxes, and payment gateways.

What are Training Credits?

Training Credits are prepaid funds toward courses. These credits can be purchased and set up by the learner or by an Account Owner like a manager.

Once you purchase training credits, you use them to purchase courses on Intellum. Managers can share a “Redemption Code”  so others can make course purchases flexible and easy without using personal credit cards.

Training Credits Example

Let’s walk through an example...

Jordan wants to take a course on “Advanced Lunar Advertising” from Boosted Marketing. He clicks “Purchase” and is then prompted by a checkout screen.

Here, he can choose Training Credits and then paste in the Redemption Code his manager gave him:

Jordan's manager chose to manually accept training credit requests. Jordan will see this notification until his manager approves the use of training credits for this course:

Then, the manager sees the request. However, they realize they do not have enough purchased training credits to approve Jordan’s request. So, the manager first refills training credits by purchasing more and then approves Jordan’s request:

Once approved, Jordan receives an automated email confirming access to the course with a direct link to it:

Now, Jordan can dive into his course without ever having to use a personal credit card!

What is the learner experience like?

Easy Purchasing

Purchasable content is part of the natural flow of the learner experience on Intellum. Once you enter a course, you’ll see its cover art and description. The course’s price and "Purchase" button stand out for clarity.

Flexible & Dynamic Checkout

At the point of purchase, Intellum E-commerce will present a simple and flexible shopping page with these key sections:

  • Your Cart

  • Payment Type

  • Customer Information

  • Summary

The learner can choose from a variety of payment options you’ve set up, including training credits!

Some customer information may fill in automatically based on a user’s existing profile fields in the Intellum Platform.

Users can, of course, edit or change any of these fields.

If they do, it will update their Billing Address, but it will not affect their saved user data within the Intellum Platform.

The learner can also apply any coupons or discounts at this point.

Once they purchase a course, the learner will have instant access to the content.

Learners can self-serve!

Lastly, Intellum users access their Intellum E-commerce details by their personal dropdown menu. You can access these details by clicking on My Profile:

Learners can then check on their course purchases under the Billing tab and their training credits under the Training Credits tab:

Intellum E-commerce removes purchasing barriers for your customers, partners, and employees.

What is the Admin experience like?

Accessing Intellum E-commerce is easy. From the Admin panel, click on the E-commerce menu item:

Expand the lefthand-side Admin panel to find the new E-commerce button.

Once inside Intellum E-commerce, you will be able to begin setting up payment gateways (like Stripe or Apple Pay) and other options.

This admin panel is powered by Spree Commerce. We've leveraged the secure, open-source Spree Commerce platform for flexibility in your e-commerce setup and your customers' e-commerce experience. Its admin section will allow you to:

  • Check on transactions

  • Set up payment processors

  • Review purchasers

  • Create discounts and sales

  • And more

How does it handle user cardholder data?

Intellum E-commerce does not store cardholder data. Rather, your payment processor stores the user’s cardholder data for processing transactions.

Once a user has made a credit card transaction, that data is stored in the payment processor, not within Intellum. The last four digits of the credit card are displayed for the user when they go to make another purchase in Intellum. This is for reference only, and the full credit card number is not stored on Intellum.

Intellum E-Commerce supports PCI and SCA compliance. For more on PCI security standards, please check your desired payment processor’s documentation.

How does it handle taxes?

Intellum E-commerce offers a lot of flexibility for collecting the right tax at the point of sale.

What if I’m using the Stripe integration?

We highly recommend talking to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) about upgrading to the new Intellum E-commerce since it supports Stripe and many other payment gateways to meet your needs. As well, we are actively working on expanding the functionality of the newer Intellum E-commerce.

When you are ready to migrate from the current Stripe integration, please contact your CSM.
