Outline

This article details a point in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and what the implications are for creating accessible course content in Evolve and is part of a larger path.

To view the full guidelines, please visit the Accessibility: WCAG 2.1 and Evolve path.

Guideline 2.3.1

Three Flashes or Below Threshold Level A Web pages do not contain anything that flashes more than three times in any one second period, or the flash is below the general flash and red flash thresholds.

Explanation

That any flashing content doesn’t flash more than three times in a second.

What does this mean for your content in Evolve?

The only things that ‘flash’ in evolve are things like highlighting an element in the Simulation Component or the pulse animation on a Hotgraphic Component item - and these are turned off by default. We would not recommend these two components for use in an accessible course.

Guideline 2.3.2

Three Flashes Level AAA Web pages do not contain anything that flashes more than three times in any one second period.

Explanation

That any flashing content doesn’t flash more than three times in a second.

What does this mean for your content in Evolve?

This is the triple A version, and so states that nothing should flash more than three times in a second, with no exceptions - easy to fulfill, nothing in Evolve flashes at that rate by default that would have to be switched off.

Guideline 2.3.3

Animation from Interactions Level AAA Motion animation triggered by interaction can be disabled unless the animation is essential to the functionality or the information being conveyed.

Explanation

Any animation caused by the user interacting with something can be switched off.

What does this mean for your content in Evolve?

The only exception to this rule is the Game Component - which we do not recommend for inclusion in an accessible course.
