E-commerce options for Groups let you offer subscription memberships using groups in the Intellum platform. Learners subscribe to gain access to the learning content restricted to a purchase group. Subscription memberships can be offered for a specific period of time or set up to renew.

This article walks you through creating a purchase group, defining a purchase type for the group, and setting related e-commerce options.

Create a New Purchase Group


Setting up group E-commerce options for a group helps you control access to the content in your catalog by requiring learners to purchase a group membership to be able to access learning content restricted to that group.

Heads Up!

E-commerce options can only be enabled when a group is created. Existing groups cannot be converted into purchase group and once created, purchase groups cannot be converted into non-purchase groups.

Follow these steps to create a new purchase group:

  1. Navigate to the Groups tab.
  2. Click Create New Group.
  3. Complete the Group Properties section.

4. Select a Purchase Type for the group membership:

  • One-Time: a one-time charge for group membership; does not renew

    • Set a price in U.S. Dollars (e.g. 125.00)
    • Set expiration in number of days - if needed (e.g. 90)
    • Set a Completion URL (e.g. a specific page in your account)


  • Subscription : a monthly or yearly charge for group membership.

    • Set a price in U.S. Dollars (e.g. 125.00)
    • Choose an automatic renewal schedule (e.g. Monthly/Yearly)
    • Set a Completion URL (e.g. a specific page in your account)

5. Click Create to save your group.

Heads Up!

Once created, the Purchase Type of a Group can't be changed or removed.

Once created, a Purchase URL for the group is available. You'll share the Purchase URL with users to let them purchase a subscription membership.

Add Catalog & Topic Restrictions


Learners purchase a subscription membership to gain access to the learning content restricted to the purchase groups you create. Manage access to subscription content by editing the Catalog Restrictions and Topic Restrictions for your purchase group.

Add a Catalog Restriction

Catalog restrictions let you restrict access to specific activities to members of a specific group.

  1. Click Edit to select an activity to restrict to members of the group.
  2. Select an activity from the dropdown and click Add. Repeat this step as necessary to continue adding activities.
  3. Click Save.

Add a Topic Restriction

Topic restrictions let you restrict access to the activities assigned to a specific topic in your catalog.

  1. Click Edit to select a topic to restrict to members of the group.
  2. Select a topic from the dropdown list and click Add. Repeat this step as necessary to continue adding topics.
  3. Click Save.

Add Auto-Enrollments

Auto-enrollments for a group are added through activity Properties. Set up auto-enrollments to automatically assign specific activities to learners as soon as they are made members of the group.
