Bulk user imports are an efficient way to add or update multiple user accounts in the Intellum platform. Unrestricted admin can import user data to Exceed via a CSV file. This type of import can be user to create new users or update existing users by overwriting their current properties.

This article gives an overview of the common upload and import errors encountered when processing a bulk user import. Each error includes an explanation of the follow-up steps needed to ensure a successful import.

Learn more about bulk user imports:

Things to note:

  • There is no undo for bulk user imports.
  • The bulk user import process is an overwrite process. An import file that includes existing users will overwrite existing data in a user account - this includes removing data if a column is left blank
  • Most import errors can be resolved by reviewing and updating the format of, or data in, your import file.

Common Upload Errors

Upload errors occur when you attempt to upload an import file. They will appear as a flag at the top of your screen if your file upload is unsuccessful.

File Content Type Error

You'll receive this error message if you upload an import file that is not a .csv.  Programs like Excel, Numbers, and Google Sheets can save/export your file as a .csv for upload to the platform.

Fix this error:

Ensure that your import file is saved as a .csv before you upload.

Appropriate Columns Error

You'll receive this error message if you attempt to upload an import file that does not include all of the columns found in the sample file or outlined in the column structure table - available for download on the bulk user import page.

Fix this error:

Ensure that your .csv import file include every column outlined on the bulk user import page , even if you do not have data for every column.

Common Import Errors

Import errors occur after you've uploaded and imported a .csv file. The most common import errors are caused by missing or redundant user data.

You will find the details of the import error included in the User Import email sent by the platform or via the Details link included with the import job in the System Log.

Things to note:

  • User data is required in columns A-E of the import file:
    • User Code
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Login
    • Password
  • If you're creating new users, users code must be unique to the platform
  • If you're updating existing users, use their existing user codes
Intellum lets you review the column and user data in your uploaded file before import.

Taking a few minutes to review and confirm both the column and user data in your uploaded file - before importing - helps mitigate common import errors.

Validation failed: [Required Column] may not be blank

An import error generated by missing column data.

You'll receive this error message if you've imported a file that is missing user data in a required column (columns A-E of the import file).

Fix this error:

Review your import file and ensure that each user data is included - for each user - across each required column.

Validation failed: [Unique User Data] has already been taken

An import error generated by redundant unique user data.

You'll receive this error message if you've imported a file that includes unique user data that's associated with an existing user account.

Fix this error:

Review your import file and ensure that the user data included for each user is unique to that user.
