Outline

The Intellum platform gives you the ability to configure your own outbound learner email delivery based on specific security or compliance needs. This gives you the option to use your own Mailgun account, a third-party mail server, or a mail service API.

Things to note:

  • This feature must be enabled by an Intellum representative before it is accessible and configurable within your account
  • An account can only have one email delivery configuration

This article provides an overview of accessing and configuring Custom Email Delivery settings for your learning site.

Access Custom Email Delivery settings

Once the feature is enabled for your account, Unrestricted Admin can access Custom Email Delivery settings through the Apps tab in account Settings.

  1. Navigate to account Settings through the expanded admin nav panel.
  2. Select the Apps tab at the top of the page.
  3. Scroll to the Custom Email Delivery app settings and select Configure Email Delivery.

Configure Custom Email Delivery

There are three configurable options available for custom email delivery method:

  • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
  • Mailgun API
  • Amazon SES API

The platform will prompt you to select a Delivery Method to create an email configuration.

Selecting a Delivery Method option on the Create Email Configuration modal to begin set up.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)

The SMTP admin form offers options for detailing your SMTP setup - not all fields are required. Blank fields will not be set.

The following fields are available for SMTP set up - bolded fields are required:

  • Status (Active/Inactive)
  • Server Address
  • TCP Port
  • Domain
  • User Name
  • Password
  • Authentication Type (plain/login/cram_md5)
  • OpenSSL Verify Mode (none/peer)
  • Enable StartTLS Auto? (true/false)

Mailgun (API)

Mailgun is the default email delivery setup in the Intellum platform. The Mailgun form offers you the option to connect your organization's individual Mailgun setup via API. Blank fields will not be set.

The following fields are available for your Mailgun (API) set up - bolded fields are required:

  • Status (Active/Inactive)
  • API host
  • API Domain
  • API Key

Heads up!

The optional API host field allows utilization of Mailgun in another geographic area. North America (api.mailgun.net) is the default setting for API host.  European Union (EU) can be enabled by entering api.eu.mailgun.net as the host.

Amazon Simple Email Service (API)

The Amazon SES (API) form offers you the option to connect your organization's Amazon SES setup via API. Blank fields will not be set.

The following fields are available for your Mailgun (API) set up - bolded fields are required:

  • Status (Active/Inactive)
  • AWS SES Region
  • AWS Secret Key ID
  • AWS Secret Key
  • Source ARN
  • From ARN
  • Return-Path ARN

Test Email Configuration

It's recommended that you test a new email configuration once you've added required and optional information and saved the form. The form does not validate the data entered, so a missing digit or misspelling will be saved as entered.

Testing the configuration lets you validate a successful connection by sending a test email from the connected service to the email in your user profile.

If the configuration is set up correctly, you will receive a notification through your connected email delivery service.

If the configuration is not set up correctly, the platform will prompt you to resolve errors in the configuration.
